Boys' Town Card Game Rules v changelog

Information

Attack Points (AP)

A card's base Attack Points are determined by the number on the top left of the card (red).
This number can be modified by various Effects that you will read about below.

Town Points (TP)

A card's base Town Points are determined by the number on the bottom right of the card (blue).
This number can be modified by various Effects that you will read about below.

Towns

Each Player has a space in front of them on the playing field where they will place cards from their Hand during their turn.
This space is referred to as a Town.

Residents

A card is called a Resident if it is in a Player's Town.

Build Effects

Build Effects are used when the card is moved from your Hand to your Town.

Resident Effects

Resident Effects can be used at any time if the card is in your Town.

Battle Effects

Battle Effects are used when the card is used during the Attack Phase.

Hand Effects

Hand Effects can be used at any time while the card is in your Hand and not in a battle, unless stated otherwise.

Combos

Some cards have Combo Effects listed on the bottom left of the card.
These effects occur when all of the cards in the combo are Residents of the Player's Town.
Combos Effects affect each card with the combo listed on it.

Combo Effects cannot be nullified.

Draw Pile & Discard Pile

If the Draw Pile is empty, take all but the topmost card from the Discard Pile and shuffle them to create a new Draw Pile.
The topmost card is important because certain Effects require it.

Discard Order

After a battle is complete, cards are discarded in this order:

  1. Any effects used (does not matter which order these go in).
  2. The Player who lost the battle.
  3. The Player who won the battle, if applicable (see Player Turn Pt. 3: Attack Phase).

Draw Order

In the event that two or more Players must draw cards at the same time, draw them in this order:

  1. A Player who must draw due to an Effect of any kind.
  2. The Player who lost the battle.

Game Start

Each Player is dealt 4I cards . The rest of the cards will form the Draw Pile.
Determine the turn order any way you like.

  1. For the optimal game experience, speak this mantra while dealing the cards: One, Two, Three, Foreskin.

Player Turn

1) Draw Phase

Draw 1 card, then:

  • If you do not like the card, discard it and draw another. You must add the second card to your Hand.
  • If you like the card, add it to your Hand. You must discard the next card in the Draw Pile.

2) Build Phase

Choose 1I card from your Hand and placeII it into your Town. This card is now a Resident of your Town.
Build Effects from the card you chose take place at this time.

  1. Some Effects allow you to place additional Residents to your Town during a single Build Phase.
These Effects may have requirements or penalties which are listed in the description.
  2. Some cards have a penalty for placing them during the Build Phase.
These penalties are nullified if another card's Effect is used to swap them into the Town.

3) Attack Phase (Note: During the first round for all Players, the Attack Phase is skipped.)

Choose 1 card from either your Hand or your Town to attack.
Battle Effects from the card you chose take place at this time.

  • If you are having a Hand Battle:
    • Place the card face-down in front of the opponent you are attacking.
    • Your opponent must also choose a card from their Hand and place it face-down in front of yours.
    • Flip both cards over.
  • If you are having a Town Battle:
    • Identify the card you are attacking with to your opponent.
    • Your opponent will now choose a card to defend with.I

After the above steps are complete:

  • Additional Battle Effects may take place at this time, either by you or your opponent.
  • The card with the highest AP wins. In the event of a tie, the Attacker wins.II
  • If a card is swapped out of battle, its Battle Effect is now nullified.
  • The losing card is discarded and the player who lost must draw 1 card.II
  • If this was a Hand battle, the winning card is also discarded.II
  1. Certain Effects can nullify this rule. Effects from the Defender take priority over Effects from the Attacker.
  2. Certain Effects can nullify this rule.

Game End

The game ends once a Player empties their hand on their turn.
If it is emptied during the Build Phase, the Attack Phase will not take place.
If the Attack Phase does take place, cards are still drawn if applicable. This does not affect the completion of the game.
At this time, all Players will calculate their total Town Points to determine the winner:

  1. Add up all the base TP values of the Residents in your Town.
  2. Take this number and multiply it by 2 if you have The John Goodcup in your Town.
  3. Take this number and add any Combo TP Bonuses or Resident Effect Bonuses that apply.
  4. Subtract 3 TP for each card in your Hand.

The Player with the highest TP is the winner!

Note: The John Goodcup's doubling effect multiplies base TP only.
